Apollo’s Hidden Secrets: Astronauts Encountered UFOs and Strange Structures on the Moon

When U.S. astronauts set foot on the Moon in 1969, it was hailed as the greatest exploration feat in human history. But according to comments from the astronauts themselves and photographic evidence from NASA’s archives, there may be far more to the story of the Apollo missions than the public was told.

Throughout the Apollo program, culminating in the celebrated lunar landings, NASA’s courageous astronauts witnessed numerous unexplained sightings and anomalies suggesting there could be an extraterrestrial presence on the Moon. From a cryptic admission by the second man to walk on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin, to images showing towering glass-like structures and mysterious objects on the lunar surface, a trail of clues points to the possibility that the space agency has concealed Earth-shaking discoveries from the public.

During the Apollo 10 mission, which orbited the Moon as a final test run before the historic landing, astronauts Thomas Stafford, John Young and Eugene Cernan had a strange encounter while soaring over the lunar surface. Onboard audio captures the astronauts discussing something peculiar they observed outside their spacecraft window.

“You wouldn’t believe what I’m looking at out here,” one crew member remarks to the others. “The land masses don’t seem to stand out quite as clearly today as they did yesterday.” His crewmates agree the sight is incredible to behold but offer few specifics, leaving the exact nature of the observation a tantalizing mystery. Were the astronauts seeing something extraordinary they couldn’t discuss in detail on an open communication channel?

The Apollo 11 mission that landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon also had its share of odd incidents, according to Aldrin. In an interview decades later, the famous moonwalker made the startling disclosure that “certain segments of his Apollo mission were carefully scripted to control exactly what the public saw and heard.”

This revelation suggests a concerted NASA effort to manage the flow of information from the missions and potentially withhold some findings from the public eye. What sights might have been too incredible or world-altering to disclose?

Aldrin himself reported observing an unexplained “illumination that was moving with respect to the stars” during the flight. Rather than immediately calling it in to Mission Control and sounding “like lunatics,” Aldrin says he and his fellow astronauts chose not to report the sighting in the moment.

They reasoned, “We were smart enough to not say, Houston, there’s a light out there that’s following us,” aware of the sensation such a report would cause in the midst of an already momentous mission. Upon returning to Earth, Aldrin recalls, NASA instructed the crew not to speak further about the puzzling incident.

Some researchers suspect the Apollo astronauts’ unusual sightings extended beyond mysterious flashing lights. Photos from the missions, when closely analyzed, appear to show colossal artificial structures towering above the moonscape NASA has long maintained is completely barren.

One striking example comes from Apollo 10, showing immense, crystalline spires vaulting up from the lunar surface in a region called Sinus Medii. Intriguingly, this is the same area where the Surveyor 4 probe disappeared without a trace on its descent, as if, in the words of one researcher, it “hit an invisible wall” or “went splat on a lunar windshield.”

Other Apollo images reveal massive geometric constructions, dome-shaped installations, and what looks like a disc-shaped craft hovering near a lunar cliff. Anomaly hunters contend such features are suggestive of artificial structures and technology, perhaps of extraterrestrial origin, captured on film during the missions.

NASA has dismissed such findings as photographic glitches, lighting quirks or misidentified geological formations. But some allege the space agency has deliberately obscured and discredited evidence of artificial structures, airbrushing them out of photos and offering mundane explanations.

If NASA’s Apollo missions did uncover proof of alien technology or artifacts on the Moon, it would be the most extraordinary discovery of the millennium. It would likely also be among the most highly classified pieces of information in existence, which even the most celebrated astronauts would hesitate to divulge without authorization.

Aldrin noted the Apollo 11 crew was acutely aware that going public with any knowledge of extraterrestrial activity would be a world-jolting revelation with unpredictable fallout. It could also seriously damage their careers and the space program, which was dependent on skittish Congressional funding. Being labeled “UFO nuts,” Aldrin said, could catastrophically undermine the agency’s initiatives.

Moreover, if the pioneering astronauts had been briefed on the existence of alien technology, they were almost certainly sworn to strict secrecy. Disclosure of such magnitude could disrupt long-held institutions and beliefs, with far-reaching effects difficult to anticipate. Even national heroes could face stiff consequences for breaking rigid security oaths.

The astronauts’ guarded statements hinting at extraordinary sights, the compelling photographic evidence, and NASA’s demonstrated aversion to transparency on the topic have fueled vigorous debate for over half a century. A vocal segment of the UFO research community is convinced Apollo uncovered ample signs we are not alone but has deliberately kept the public in the dark.

A few researchers have even posited that Apollo’s ultimate purpose was to conduct a series of “salvage missions” to retrieve and reverse-engineer the fantastic alien treasures and technology thought to be secreted away on the Moon, ostensibly for decades. Such theories, while admittedly speculative, resonate with the widely held suspicion that world governments have long suppressed the reality of extraterrestrial contact.

Without official confirmation, the public is left to piece together the clues and reach their own verdict. Did the valiant Apollo astronauts, venturing to another world for the first time in human history, stumble upon incontrovertible evidence that mankind is not alone in the universe? A sober look at the available evidence suggests there are chapters in the story of the race to the Moon that remain untold.
