Today marks a historic moment as the United States House of Representatives holds a hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), a term encompassing unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and any unexplained crafts or occurrences observed in space or underwater. The hearing, conducted by the House’s Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs, will feature testimony from former US military and intelligence personnel who claim encounters with unconventional crafts defying known flight capabilities and evidence of “non-human intelligence.”

Wednesday’s testimonies will include accounts from Ryan Graves and David Fravor, both former US Navy aviators who have witnessed highly publicized encounters with mysterious aircraft in military airspace. Additionally, David Grusch will take the stand. Grusch, a decorated former combat officer and veteran of the Pentagon’s intelligence community, claims access to classified information on covert programs, including artifacts of non-human origin. While his statements have sparked controversy, they have drawn attention from major news outlets and US politicians.
Some members of Congress have insinuated that hidden UFO/UAP knowledge has been concealed from the public for decades. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) expressed in a House Committee on Oversight and Reform statement, “The Pentagon and Washington bureaucrats have kept this information hidden for decades, and we’re finally going to shed some light on it. We’re bringing in credible witnesses who can provide public testimony because the American people deserve the truth. We’re done with the cover-ups.”
Ryan Graves, an advocate for studying UAP’s implications on airspace safety, deems these phenomena an “urgent and critical national security issue” requiring thorough scientific scrutiny. “If UAP are foreign assets, we must respond appropriately. If UAP continue to defy conventional explanation — we must invest in scientific research,” Graves stated in a press release.
This congressional hearing adds to a series of significant milestones concerning UFOs/UAP and the US government and its agencies. Almost a year ago, the US Department of Defense established the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), aiming to gather and analyze data related to UFOs from the military and intelligence community. During an April 2023 hearing, the AARO director revealed that no credible evidence of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects defying known laws of physics had been found. Such statements now contrast sharply with the testimonies expected in today’s hearing.
Recently, NASA also held a public meeting of its independent UAP study group, with a report from the group soon to be released.
